SwiftUI by Example: Now updated for iOS 16

100 new Xcode projects to download and try.

This week I published the biggest ever update to SwiftUI by Example, adding lots of new sample code plus 100 new Xcode projects to download.

The initial goal was to update the book for iOS 16, but I ended up going back and adding coverage of functionality introduced in iOS 15 and even 14 – this update is just packed with extra code, improved examples, and more.

To save you having to dig through and look for what’s new, here’s a list of the biggest changes:

• All navigation examples have been updated to use NavigationStack and NavigationSplitView.
• New: How to customize the background color of navigation bars, tab bars, and toolbars.
• New: How to adjust List row separator insets
• New: How to hide the tab bar, navigation bar, or other toolbars
• New: How to create custom animated drawings with TimelineView and Canvas
• New: How to convert a SwiftUI view to an image

• New: How to group views together with ControlGroup
• New: How to create a custom layout using the Layout protocol
• New: How to customize the way links are opened
• New: How to add a TextField to an alert
• New: How to align form text and controls neatly with LabeledContent
• New: How to hide and show the sidebar programmatically
• New: How to let users customize toolbar buttons
• New: How to let users select pictures using PhotosPicker
• New: How to let users import videos using PhotosPicker
• New: How to create an adaptive layout with ViewThatFits
• New: How to open a new window
• New: How to show different images and other views in light or dark mode
• New: How to change the tint color for individual list rows
• New: How to let users edit your navigation title
• New: How to specify the Dynamic Type sizes a view supports
• New: How to make VoiceOver read characters individually.
• Improved: How to style text views with fonts, colors, line spacing, and more introduces the new fontDesign() and fontWidth() modifiers.
• Improved: How to let users delete rows from a list and How to let users move rows in a list now use the new editActions API for List.

And of course I rerecorded the complete introductory video series to take into account all these new APIs.
