SOLVED: Sort array alphabetically

Forums > SwiftUI

I have an array that i am using in a picker and i would like this array to be sorted alphabetially.

var object = ["Car", "Bus", "Dog", "Rat"]

I thought the following might have done it but i get errors

var object = object.sort()

I dont know if i am missing something but this seems really tricky...?

You are trying doing "in-place" sort with sort() method meaning it will sort the original array but not return it. Which is fine in this case. + you are reusing existing variable name

Alternatively use the sorted() method which will return new sorted array and keeps the original one intact.

You can do

var objects = ["Car", "Bus", "Dog", "Rat"].sorted()

or you can stick with sort and use it like this:

object.sort(by: <)
