Drag/drop custom types

Forums > SwiftUI

Hey,

I'm creating a macOS app where in my sidebar I have a List bound to some CoreData records. I want to be able to drag one of these list items and drop it into a 'bucket' on the main view, utlimately to allow me create a CoreData relationships between the items.

Can anyone help? All of the drag/drop examples I've followed only refer to simple types like strings, URLs etc etc. In my case I have more complex data structures and can't see an easy way to do this. I can get the interaction to trigger OK, but data only seems to pass around if I use something non-useful like a string.

Halp!

If you aren't targeting pre-iOS 16 versions, you could take a look at the new Transferable protocol. There is a good WWDC video about it.

Thanks! I'm taking a look now -- yeah, I'm not targetting anything older at the moment.
