App Data size much bigger than expected (garbage collection?)

I noticed in my phone's settings app that the amount of data my app stored on my phone is around 900MB. I expect this to be only in the 10's of MB's.

I use a CoreData database to store the app's data.

Is this due to a lack of 'garbage collection' on the app's behalf?
