SOLVED: Picker question

Forums > 100 Days of SwiftUI

Hi,

If I use this code example from Hacking with IOS:

struct ContentView: View {
    let students = ["Harry", "Hermione", "Ron"]
    @State private var selectedStudent = 0

    var body: some View {
        VStack {
            Picker("Select your student", selection: $selectedStudent) {
                ForEach(0 ..< students.count) {
                    Text(self.students[$0])
                }

            }
            Text("You chose: Student # \(students[selectedStudent])")

        }

    }
}

the text "Select your student" does not show up on canvas or simulator.

However, if i use this Picker view from Project 4:

Picker("Number of Cups" ,selection: $coffeeAmount) {
           ForEach(0..<21) {
                   Text(String($0))
           }
 }

the text "Number of Cups" shows up just fine.

Why? Is there something I'm doing wrong(or not understanding) in the first example?

Thank you.

In the first one change the VStack to Form and in a NavigationView then you will see in displayed (as in Project 4)

PS even though it may not be displayed it will be read in VoiceOver mode.

struct ContentView: View {
    let students = ["Harry", "Hermione", "Ron"]
    @State private var selectedStudent = 0

    var body: some View {
        NavigationView {
            Form {
                Picker("Select your student", selection: $selectedStudent) {
                    ForEach(0 ..< students.count) {
                        Text(self.students[$0])
                    }
                }

                Text("You chose: Student # \(students[selectedStudent])")

            }
        }
    }
}

That clears it up. Thank you!
