SOLVED: Optionals Summary Question 7

Forums > 100 Days of SwiftUI

struct Dog {
    var name: String
    init?(name: String) {
        guard name == "Lassie" else {
            print("Sorry, wrong dog!")
            return nil
        }
        self.name = name
    }
}
let dog = Dog(name: "Fido")

isn't there a mistake? Paul didnt use guard let but it said true.

guard checks a condition. Here, the condition is whether or not name is "Lassie".

guard let assigns a value (and can also be used to unwrap an optional) and then uses that value to check a condition. Here, there is no optional to unwrap and nothing is being assigned, so guard let is unnecessary and a simple guard statement is used.
