XCode 12.1 - Why can't I see variables on right hand side of screen/

I'm using Xcode 12.1

On the examples, when a statement like let variable1 = "this is a variable" is entered, it shows up on the right hand screen.

This is not working when I use Xcode 12.1.

What do I need to do to get the variables to show?
