SOLVED: UIKit resources for someone doing 100 Days of SwiftUI

Forums > Swift

SwiftUI is great, but I want to be as employable as possible, so I'd like to study UIKit after I'm done with this course. If I can help it, I'd rather not have to do 100 Days of Swift in order to learn UIKit.

Are there resources that can teach UIKit to someone who already knows Swift and SwiftUI?

It seems that 100 Days of Swift is the exact resource you need to accomplish your goals of understanding UIKit.

I would think doing the same projects (Guess the Flag, etc) in both UIKit and SwiftUI would give you a way to compare and contrast the two approaches to developing apps.

The first 15 days are the same for both courses.

Plus, @twostraws has several books (resources as you call them?)

If this is not enough, what exactly are you looking for?

What you've suggested about doing the earlier projects in UIKit sounds like a great idea, thanks! I'll also check out the books.

My only concern was that I don't want to do the entire course, it seems like a waste of time if I've already learned stuff like URLSession and Core Data from the SwiftUI course. I just want to know how to use Auto Layout and other UIKit specific features.

Well good luck. There are other programmers who also offer UIKit tutorials. Cannot vouch for their value, though.

To be honest, I don't completely understand the desire to learn both. Sure, I understand a lot of legacy iOS code is still in UIKit. And companies want employees who can keep the old infrastructure running. I get that.

But I can help but think.... This is like saying you want to learn both how to make horseshoes AND how to fix automobiles. or you want to know all the features of Lotus-1-2-3 AND Microsoft Excel. or you want to be skilled in both Novell's NetWare AND Microsoft's LANManager.

UIKit vs SwiftUI. One of these is going to win out.

At one point, I was sick of helpdesk calls to trouble shoot Lotus123 issues with NetWare file shares! Ugh. Just shoot me.
