Problem with StackView and add label

Forums > Swift

Hi Steven,

Instead of myStack.addSubview you should be using myStack.addArrangedSubview

This code will help you get going

override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()
        // create your labels just like you already do
        let addLabelOne = ...
        let addLabelTwo = ...

        // create the stackView and add it to the hierarchy
        let myStack = UIStackView()
        myStack.axis = .vertical
        myStack.distribution = .fillEqually
        view.addSubview(myStack)

        // tell stackView to arrange the labels
        myStack.addArrangedSubview(addLabelOne)
        myStack.addArrangedSubview(addLabelTwo)

        // pin the stackView to the entire view
        myStack.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false
        NSLayoutConstraint.activate([
            myStack.topAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.layoutMarginsGuide.topAnchor),
            myStack.leadingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.layoutMarginsGuide.leadingAnchor),
            myStack.trailingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.layoutMarginsGuide.trailingAnchor),
            myStack.bottomAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.layoutMarginsGuide.bottomAnchor),
        ])
    }
