Trying to disable kanji conversion on Japanese Keyboard for a text field

Forums > iOS

I'm working on a flashcard program for Japanese, and ironically using Japanese input is allowing users to verify their answers prior to submitting them, since the nature of Japanese input is to have a series of suggested kanji conversions for the user to choose from—not altogether a bad thing, but one I'd like to at least give them the ability to opt into.

I've tried turning off all of the autocomplete/correction/capitalization/etc. options on the input text field in Interface Builder, but the bar for suggested kanji conversions still appears. Are there any other avenues we can try, or am I looking at trying to build a custom keyboard to achieve this?

Thanks!
